Art Fair Markets
This summer has been a whirlwind of Art Fairs and markets. There is nothing better than being outside in the breezy, ocean air, talking to people that come by my pop up gallery. A new venue this year was the Jazz Festival out at Fort Adams at the end of July. The weather was wonderful and the music even better! Then there was Block Island, which is one of my favorite places to be in there world. The last show on the circuit this summer is next weekend in South Portland, Maine. The Maine Seaweed Festival! I will be a guest presenter, showing an audience how to press and preserve seaweed. Below is a picture of my booth at Jazz Fest, the party in Newport harbor going on behind me, and Catie and Annie modeling a new Saltwater Studio product - seaweed necklaces!
Tis the Season
As I prepare for my final shows of the season, I think back on all the accomplishments that were achieved this year. The biggest event was the exhibit at the Newport Art Museum but I also tried out some new art festivals in Wellfleet and Marblehead. The director of the Wickford Art Festival attended my artist talk at NAM and invited me to participate in the show this coming year. I was also invited to join the board of Newport's Hospitality Committee, which is a commission that promotes cultural exchanges between Newport and its sister cities.
Every year I write down my goals for Saltwater Studio. The act of writing them down transforms the percolating ideas from thoughts into a real course of action - like sticking pins into a road map. I usually meet my goals, often surpass them or revisit my list to add more. It is fun exercise and highly effective - I'm looking forward to 2015!
