This specimen of Rhodymenia palmata (dulse) was found in the waters off Ocean Drive in Newport, Rhode Island. Four oblong blades are attached to a central host and float upward like buoyant magenta balloons. The color and shapes are reminiscent of stained glass designs one might find in an old ocean-side home.
