This original pressing of seaweed from the salty waters of Narragansett Bay brings a little bit of the ocean into your home! Multiple specimens of marine algae are collaged into archival watercolor paper that has been toned blue through the cyanotype exposure process. This is the wet cyanotype process where the paper is coated with an elmulsion that makes it light sensitive. Fresh seaweed is placed directly on the paper and then exposed to UV light. When the emulsion is washed off, whatever was covered blocks the rays and leaves a lighter impression while the rest of the paper turns shades of blue. This combination adds dimension and a watery effect to the final piece.
This collage is pressed and dried into 8 x 10" watercolor paper and signed by the artist. It will be packed flat for shipping.
